CHEF / OWNER
Living in the Bay Area for more than 30 years, Chef Hirigoyen has a fine appreciation for the California culinary sensibility, incorporating fresh ingredients into simple, scrumptious dishes that echo the local spirit as well as that of his homeland. No truer example exists of Hirigoyen's ability to integrate the two cuisines than Piperade, the restaurant he opened with his wife Cameron in 2002. The menu at Piperade, which christened Hirigoyen's "West-Coast Basque Cuisine," thoroughly reflects his culinary heritage and talent for remaining true to the main components of each dish.
Hirigoyen's honors and accomplishments cover a dynamic and distinguished spectrum, from being selected as one of "Food & Wine Magazine's Best New Chefs in America" in 1994, to the honor of being San Francisco Magazine's only "Chef of the Year" to be named not just once, but twice: in 1995 and in 2003. Aside from glowing features in journals such as Bon Appetit, Gourmet and The New York Times, Gerald was especially proud to have been nominated by a jury of his peers for the James Beard Award: “Best Chef, California” in 2006.

MANAGER / OWNER
A native Calfornian hailing from Carmel-by-the-Sea, Cameron showed an unusual passion for the culinary arts long before she encountered her future husband, Chef Hirigoyen. As a liberal arts graduate from Stanford University ('86, Political Science & Chinese) while searching for a job, she instead wound up creating one for herself in food product development. Cameron and a multi-unit bakery owner in Carmel developed "Thinkers" a line of wholesome snack cakes that were well ahead of the health craze curve, with the slogan 'We taught an old snack a new trick!'
Cameron settled in San Francisco to help with her family’s art gallery business, The Galerie de Tours when she decided to volunteer for The Ansel Adams Center for Photographic Arts where she earned the full time position of Public Relations Director. The Center's location South of Market was far off the beaten track in 1991, but as fate would have it, a modern French-Basque bistro was about to open just down 4th street, who’s chef would become nationally recognized – but not before he caught her eye for his tuna burger and crème brulee!
The long demanding hours of restaurant life led her to the conclusion that "if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” And so it was that Cameron began slowly to offer her time and talent to Chef Hirigoyen wherever she could be of assistance. Now she is the VP and Marketing Director for both Piperade & Bocadillos restaurants as well as Managing Partner for their cafeteria services for Williams-Sonoma, Inc.
Aside from the restaurant business, Cameron’s other passion is her side career as a portrait photographer. She is actively involved in her children’s schools and the Marin community, but her biggest delight is relaxing with her chef husband and 3 sons in their Mill Valley garden.
Since its inception, Piperade has received accolades from esteemed publications nationwide. Some of these include:
The San Francisco Chronicle's Best 100 Restaurants of the Bay Area
The San Jose Mercury
Marin Independent Journal
Nation's Restaurant News
The Contra Costa Times
